Unlock Search.com Review

02 Jul 2008

I recently attempted to unlock a Samsung E380 for someone. I came across this website and impatiently handed over £3. This is the WORST £3 I have ever spent in my life. This incredible excuse for a website simply does one thing. Tell you how you could unlock your phone. And all at extra cost. In their terms and conditions I know regret not reading (who reads them anyway?), it states right at the bottom that they will not necessarily send you a network unlock code (the code you need to actually unlock your code), but rather they send you instructions on how to unlock it. All I received was a 'personalised' email (a generic template with my IMEI make and model at the top of it, and nothing more.

Basically, save your money, and stay clear from this site, unless you need to pay for your common sense.

Sandisk Ultra II 4GB Review

28 Jun 2008

Not really finding any review online sufficient for this wonderful little device, I thought I'd stick my own review on here, going into a bit more detail about my setup. I have a 4GB Sandisk Ultra II (the newer, faster 15Mbyte/s model), running as the boot device for a Back Track 3 LiveCD install in my Asus Eee PC. Basically, after I realised it was just the same to have it installed on an SD card, and that what I wanted was a dual boot of Back Track and Windows, I thought if I have it on an SD card, not only do I get the basic same effect of having it in a dual boot configuration, but there's no USB sticks sticking out the side of my Eee PC waiting to be snapped off, let alone me forgetting to bring it with me. So I bought myself one of these SD cards, but before I made the switch, I decided to a little real world check.

First I measured the time it took to boot up on the Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB USB stick. The time came to 1m 31s from selecting KDE Persistent, to all tray icons loading. Bearing in mind a notice appears requiring me to hit the space bar, due to the screen on the Eee PC, which I timed 1 second before hitting. Then I did the same for the SD card. The result? A frankly surprising 1m 5s. I was very impressed. Not only had the card managed to outperform the less capacious USB stick, and go through the in-built card reader also, but it also gave applications much faster start up times. For this I took no proper measurements, but from long experience with that USB stick, the difference, I can tell, is noticeable. At first I was skeptical about the difference, but it is clear now it is a much better performer. I didn't do any benchmarks as I was far too excited to get a review online, but I noticed that copying from the USB stick to the card gave 12MB/s consistently, so it has to at least write at that speed, and no doubt it will read that or faster. Considering the Extreme III was quite a bit more, and that it was just 5MB/s more, I'm glad I saved the money. Besides, no stupid USB stick hanging out the side of my Eee PC now.

If you now own a shiny new Asus Eee PC 900 and are interested in a little bit of educational WEP encryption cracking, then you will be grateful to hear that I've written a guide just for you :) Strictly speaking, I wrote this 3 years ago for myself and my rt8180 chipset wireless card so that I'd not forget how to do it, but either way, I've modified it to be perfect for us Eee PC 900 owners! How to Restore the Missing Show Desktop icon

22 May 2008 by George Hafiz

The Show Desktop icon is not a standard shortcut, but a Windows explorer command file that is written in plain text.

If you accidentally delete the little icon in the bottom left of your screen, follow these steps to restore it:

First, open up this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch. Now right click, point to new, and choose 'Notepad'. A new notepad file will be created. Doube click on it to bring it up. Now enter in:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,34
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Now choose File => Save As... and save the file as "Show Desktop.scf" with quotes to ensure it is saved with the extension .scf.

That's it! Because of where you saved it, it should automatically appear in the quick launch bar, and with the little icon too. I wrote this after following a guide by another who didn't mention the icon file link, meaning the icon was just the default windows one.

Humour Sucks!

25 Apr 2008 by George Hafiz

Is it just me who thinks that the world is a bit too 'happy'? People may disagree with me in that they say how can one possibly laugh too much? Well my argument is that it's the way that people are being made to laugh. It's not just the sick and strange things that people do such as the so- called 'happy slapping' either, it's the whole rounded fact that people seem to be laughing and stuff that, well, just isn't funny. Who remembers cheeky girls? There's no way that these people came to the doors of the X-Factor with the intention of starting a serious singing career. And it's only as a result of the general public laughing AT them, that the big names decided to sign them up. So two strange people earned millions as the result of making a complete fool out of themselves, and they were heavily promoted all over our nation’s television sets. Is this the sort of thing that we want to be promoting to the general public - go on TV, make a complete fool of yourself, and there's probably a bit of money in it for you.

English Presentation Thingy: No PowerPoint, No Cry

02 Apr 2008 by George Hafiz

As you know, upcoming on the agenda is a little tiny nothing-to-worry-about project (or whatever it actually is) on something digital related. All I know is that it's on the computer and it's gonna be great. Although some people may not have access to Slideshow creating utilities, such as Microsoft's PowerPoint, and so I recommend this alternative. On this website you will be able to download software called OpenOffice, which is completely free, and will be able to set you up in creating slide show presentations which you can then save as a file that Office will recognise, and you can edit it at school.

If you believe you will have trouble saving the Impress (what the free alternative of PowerPoint is called), then you can use this excellent tutorial here and learn for yourself. It's very easy. Don't worry!

eBay's new search

30 Mar 2008 by George Hafiz

Is it just me who HATES eBay's new search? It's clumsly, slow, poorly layed out, and makes it difficult to do anything in any regards of the word 'simply'. I can't even find a way to revert back to the old search! If anyone knows how to do this, please email me. It's driving me crazy.

Unlock Sharp GX series phones

15 Mar 2008 by George Hafiz

Unlock your Sharp GX phone today with this awesome software!
This software will unlock:

  • Liberar GX10 -> Unlock GX10
  • Liberar GX10N -> Unlock GX10n
  • Liberar GX10i -> Unlock GX10i
  • Liberar GX20 -> Unlock GX20
  • Reset Codigo -> Reset Code
You will need to put the MSCOMM32.OCX file in C:\Windows\system32, then run the executable. (Assuming you are on Win98 to WinXP). Then simply choose your model, hit Connectar and your mobile will switch into 'Test mode'. Then click 'Aplicar Seleción'. You should get something like 'Libre OK', which means you were successful! Don't forget to change your network settings on the phone to automatic when searching for network, otherwise it might not find the network. I used an RS232 Serial cable for my phone, which I paid £11 years ago. It worked great on my GX10i. Good luck!

DriverMax

9 Mar 2008 by George Hafiz

DriverMax is an absolutely fantastic program that can help you identify unknown devices, backup your device drivers for easy reinstallation after a format, and let you know if you need updates or not. Formatting someones computer? Just install this and backup their drivers so you can guarentee a quicker fix than hunting down rare drivers afterwards.

Tiny Grow

9 Mar 2008 by George Hafiz

Probably the most insane thing I've come across on the net (www.box7box.com), this flash game will probably make you go insane. I think the aim of it is to just grow stuff... for example when the eye grows give it a drop so the tear falls and makes an eye-tree... probably best you just play around with it actually.

Fatty Boom Booms

8 Mar 2008 by George Hafiz & Megan Nicholls

Hello, my name is George. Megan is also here, and her name is Megan. She says hello also. This website is by far her favourite website, because it doesn't have Bebo, or MySpaz written on it. Except it does now, because we've just written it... a paradox if there ever was one! We're on an eating spree of McDonald's and other sugary produce. We don't care that we're gonna get fat, because when the going gets good, the good gets going.

I made a shoutbox so now you can shout at me if you have nothing better to do! So I'm expecting a lot of shouts! Please comment on the site and give some ideas on what I could put on here as I really have no idea what to put on here, other than the random rubbish you've seen thus far.

Down Time

11 Feb 2008 by George Hafiz

For those that actually visit my website, the down time yesterday was due to a DNS error. After reconfiguring my email with my domain registrar they reset my DNS settings to the defaults, and it takes around 24 hours from when I put them right again to my website being back online. So apologies for that.

E-mail... dead

8 Feb 2008 by George Hafiz

Because of abuse of my email server, I've had to take it offline. The trouble was that a lot of spammers were using it to send unsolicited email, whilst at the same time a lot of your genuine email was being denied by the big name's such as Hotmail and Google due to the simple fact that I'm not a registered company. Damn them monopolizing... So I'm sorry everyone, but for the meantime, email is offline.

The Forum

6 Feb 2008 by George Hafiz

Half because I'm completely crazy, and half because Mr. Humphries has a profound effect on how I spend my time in the evenings, I've built a forum! There's not much on it right now but I hope that over time you guys will fill it with rubbish and show the inexperienced *cough* how they work, and, even more interestingly, the aspects of language involved! :O

How To Host in Worms Armageddon

2 Feb 2008 by George Hafiz

A lot of people on Worms Armageddon have some great maps that they'd like to share with others on WormNet, but can't because they don't know how to host games. Also, a lot of people find themselves waiting around for someone to host their favourite game. Why not kill two birds with one stone and learn how to host a game in Worms Armageddon!

Virgin's 4Mb Service Upgrade to 10Mb Official!

28 Jan 2008 by George Hafiz

Just yesterday, Virgin announced on their website that current 4Mb users will be upgraded to 10Mbps for free in the near future. Some fear that these free upgrades will upset further the already oversubscribed areas to the extent that users get a net decrease in service speed. However, with the impending upgrade to DOCSIS 3 across the country, maybe UK consumers will all finally receive a service much closer to their 'up to' speeds.

Fat Flash

27 Jan 2008 by George Hafiz

So I was wondering what to stick on up here having missed yesterday to update my website, and I found this flash which I thought might make you laugh. I made it a few months ago with Adam, and, surprisingly, it took a very long time.

Webmail

25 Jan 2008 by George Hafiz

I'm currently in the process of integrating a webmail interface for the email addresses you have registered so that you may read your emails online rather than the more complicated method of setting up a POP client. I'll let you know here when this will be availible.

**UPDATE**

Webmail is now fully up and running. Improvements will be made to the look and feel of it over time, but for now it's running great, and I hope you enjoy it! Click here to get started now. If you haven't already got an email, contact me!

**UPDATE**

Webmail has been taken offline due to abuse.

Under Construction

24 Jan 2008 by George Hafiz

Hello, and welcome to my website! As you can see a lot of the text makes no sense whatsoever. That's because I'm still building the site! If you happen to check back often you'll notice things being updated and added here and there, and soon enough it'll be done. If you wanted to get your own email address with me, for example, george@georgehafiz.co.uk, I can offer you unlimited email storage. Obviously this is subject to demand but I'm not that popular!
